The Maxxis Assegai in 3C MAXXTERRA/EXO+/TR delivers World Cup-proven grip and all-conditions confidence for trail and enduro riders who refuse to slow down.

Named after the iron-tipped spear of the Zulu people and co-developed with multiple downhill world champion Greg Minnaar, the Maxxis Assegai is built for riders who want to go fast everywhere, not just in one type of condition. The tall knobs punch through dust and loam to find traction, while transition knobs between the center and side treads deliver a smooth, predictable feel through corners at any lean angle. This is the tire that wins World Cups, and now it is ready for your local trails.

The 3C MAXXTERRA compound is the sweet spot in Maxxis' lineup, sitting between the faster-rolling MaxxSpeed and the ultra-sticky MaxxGrip. It rolls efficiently on hardpack and dry singletrack while still delivering serious grip when things get loose or rooty. Paired with the EXO+ casing, which layers Maxxis' proven sidewall protection with a SilkShield membrane and a butyl bead insert, this tire handles trail abuse without adding unnecessary weight.

The Wide Trail construction optimizes the 2.5-inch tread profile for modern rims in the 30 to 40mm internal width range, so the knobs sit at the right angle and the tire holds its shape under load. Tubeless Ready setup is dialed from the first pump, thanks to a fully rubber-coated bead that seats cleanly with minimal sealant. At 1,125 grams, it is a capable, confidence-building front tire for enduro bikes and aggressive trail rigs alike.

Why You'll Like It

Enduro shredders and aggressive trail riders get a tire that keeps up with their pace on every surface, from dry loam to wet roots, without having to second-guess their line. Your corners feel planted and predictable, your sidewalls stay intact on rocky chunder, and the tubeless setup goes on without the usual fight. If you ride hard and hate flats, this one belongs on your front wheel.

Key Features

  • 3C MAXXTERRA compound: triple-compound construction balances grip, durability, and low rolling resistance across all trail conditions
  • EXO+ casing: mid-weight sidewall protection with SilkShield membrane and butyl bead insert for reliable flat resistance without excessive weight
  • Tall, ramped center knobs punch through loose terrain and ramp up for efficient rolling, with transition knobs for smooth, confident cornering
  • Wide Trail (WT) construction optimized for 30 to 40mm internal rim widths, keeping the tread profile and knob angle dialed on modern rims
  • Tubeless Ready (TR) with a fully rubber-coated bead that seats easily and seals reliably, 29 x 2.50 size, foldable bead, 1,125g
